Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind: Attraction Spotlight

Fast Facts

Location: Pixar Pier, Disney California Adventure

Opening Date: June 28, 2019

Height requirement: None

Age Requirement: Children under 7 must be accompanied

Who it’s for: The whole family!

Ride Length: 3 minutes

Fun Fact: Emotional Whirlwind was Flik’s Flyers in Bugs’ Land. It moved and re-themed after Bug’s Land closed.

Emotional Whirlwind is the newest spinner at the Disneyland Resort, having opened in 2019. This spinner formerly lived in Bugs’ Land as Flik’s Flyers, but with Avengers Campus displacing the ride, it was re-themed and moved to Pixar Pier. While the ride itself is a basic “spinner” type ride, it brings some much needed motion to the Pixar Pier area of the park.

While riding, you will get to enjoy some views from above, as well as enjoying the fantastic memory wall set piece behind the ride itself. Think about all the memories you will make riding the Emotional Whirlwind!

The Official Word

If you’re interested in the official spiel, here’s how Disneyland’s site describes the attraction:

Welcome to Headquarters

Inspired by the Disney and Pixar film Inside Out, this fun family-friendly attraction invites you to step into the workplace of Riley’s Emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger.

Your adventure begins when you hop aboard one of 8 Memory Movers, each uniquely colored to evoke one of Riley’s Emotions or another exuberant character from her imagination.

You’ll find yourself surrounded by vibrant shelves packed with glowing recollections as the Memory Movers ascend in unison, fly in a circle and inspire you to create your own happy memory of this experience.

Lizzie’s Take

Randy’s Take

Emotional Whirlwind… because Disney needed another spinner, am I right? But in all seriousness, the spinner is a welcome addition to Disney California Adventure, as the back side of the park sorely lacked in attractions for most of DCA’s existence. (As background, the area this attraction occupies was an empty concrete platform for over a decade prior to this ride moving here.

Outside of improving on dead space, I like that Disney is bringing their new IP (like Inside Out) to the parks with tried-and-true ride formats like a spinner. This gives children to go on their favorite movie’s ride and hear their favorite character voices as they spin around.
